2011 Race Info

THE DIRTY DYEA CYCLOCROSS RACE
Saturday, September 24th 2011 - 5 pm AK start time (6 pm Yukon)

NEW FORMAT!
We are trying something new this year - a 'long format' cross race:
-Start is near the Skagway airport parking lot/the metal foot bridge over to Yakutania Point.
-In the first mile, flat double track leads to a steep 4x4 road climb up to the Dyea Rd.
-Once to the Dyea road, its about a 5 mile dirt road ride out to the Dyea flats.
-Finish with 4 laps around a standard cyclocross course in the flats very similar to last years loop.

MEET:
Near metal footbridge/Skagway airport parking lot (please try to park on State St. or one of the cross streets like 3rd or 4th and bike over, the airport parking lot does not usually have a lot of open parking spots)

TIME:
Please meet by 4:30 PM AK time to register so that we can start at 5 sharp.  Riders should finish between 6 PM and 7 PM.

COST:
No fee!  Suggested donation to the Taiya Inlet Watershed Council (www.taiya.org).

OTHER:
-Spectators are encouraged to meet out in Dyea by 5 PM and not to try to follow riders along the Dyea road.  The best spot to park is the large dirt area just over the Slough Bridge in the flats (this is also the finish line).
-We will have van's and trailers available to shuttle riders back to Skagway.
-Everyone will depart together, feel free to race or to ride at your own pace.
-Pretty much any bike will work.  A cyclocross bike would be ideal.  A mountain bike will work fine, but will probably be slower on the road section.  A road bike with wider tires (28's +) will work but may be difficult on the first steep/rocky section and the sandy/muddy sections on the loop out in Dyea.
-No entry fee, no prizes.  We might construct a trophy of some sort.  Regardless, we will be happy to buy you a beer, root beer, or some tater tots at the Brew Co after the race if you crush.
